A fundraiser, in some settings, has an opportunity to “float” or “lift up” an ask that represents a substantial leap in giving that goes far beyond what might be envisioned based on current giving levels. This opportunity is often grounded in two intertwining variables: a) the believe (often grounded more in intuition than fact) that the donor is capable of a much larger financial investment and b) the feeling or belief that a specific opportunity for a substantial increase in giving (10, 50, or 100 times the current gift level) may closely resonate with the interests of the donor.
