Organizations with well developed major gift programs (and experience over time with the Solicitation Ladder concept), have little difficulty defining what should be considered a major gift prospect for their organization. When, however, an organization has generally been employing an annual fund model designed around mass mailings and direct mail, the Donor Pyramid will often include very few large gifts and not be an accurate indicator of what should be considered a major gift prospect.
