Many supervisors and managers are unsure of what conduct constitutes unlawful harassment under federal and California laws, the standards used to evaluate hostile work environment claims, and their responsibilities for preventing, addressing, and reporting workplace misconduct. Without a clear understanding of these legal obligations, supervisors may fail to respond appropriately to complaints or observed misconduct, increasing legal risk for both the organization and its employees. This presentation provides participants with a practical understanding of California’s harassment and discrimination laws, their responsibilities under those laws, and the standards used to determine whether unlawful harassment has occurred. Attendees will learn how to recognize sexual harassment, understand the evidence used to evaluate hostile work environment claims, distinguish unlawful harassment from inappropriate workplace conduct, appropriately receive and report complaints, and help prevent retaliation. This course equips supervisors and managers with the knowledge and confidence to respond appropriately to workplace concerns, fulfill their legal responsibilities, and foster a respectful, inclusive, and legally compliant work environment.
