Let’s learn how to write a need statement. Writing a grant proposal can seem daunting when you’re staying at a blank screen, wondering what to write. When people are first learning to write a proposal, they often struggle with knowing how much to write and whether or not they’re answering the question the way the funder expects.

One of the most important sections of your proposal will be the need statement, sometimes referred to as the problem statement. You will use this section to talk about how and why your services are needed. Use the opportunity to create a sense of urgency and let the reviewer know why you are uniquely positioned to meet the need in your community.
